MG ALBA Trad awards

Gaelic Media Service MG ALBA has announce that it is continuing its support for the Scots Trad Music Awards which, in 2013, will be held in the appropriately named Music Hall in Aberdeen in December.

This will be the sixth year that MG ALBA has sponsored the awards, regarded by many as the highlight of the Traditional Music calendar and which will be visiting Aberdeen for the first time.

The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards were first staged in 2003, to increase the profile and visibility of Scottish traditional music. The awards are voted for by the general public and attract around 100,000 votes each year.

Public voting for the 2013 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards will open on Monday 4th November.

Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA, says: ‘The Trad Awards recognise excellence and MG ALBA is pleased to be supporting the awards again this year. We are proud to be associated with the talent that exists in Scotland and we very much look forward to working with Hands Up For Trad on this year’s event in Aberdeen.’

Simon Thoumire, Creative Director for Hands Up For Trad, welcomes the continuing support of MG ALBA saying: ‘We are delighted that MG ALBA has once again agreed to sponsor the Scots Trad Music Awards this year. The partnership with MG ALBA since 2008 has enabled us to showcase the very best of Scottish traditional and Gaelic music and song to new audiences, providing a platform for new talent, whilst also celebrating and recognising the achievements of established artists. We are very excited about taking the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards this year to Aberdeen for the first time.’

The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2013 ceremony will be be the focus of a Gala concert in the Music Hall in Aberdeen on Saturday 7th December, featuring live performances from a stellar cast including Blazing Fiddles, Kathleen MacInnes, The Shee and many more.
